Playing badminton can roughly burn 300 calories in an hour at a social level of play. If you increase the intensity of your game then you will automatically burn more calories accordingly. Professional players can burn about 500 calories in an hour of play.

You dread high-intensity interval training at the gym but what if we tell you that playing badminton can deliver similar benefits and results. Badminton involves lots of small, sharp, quick and explosive movements with short cooldown reliefs in between. You also need to move around quickly in order to cover the court, especially if you’re playing singles.

Every shot in badminton is a figure-toning workout – sometimes you jump high for that tricky shot or run towards the next to hit a smash. Playing a badminton match will help to cut flab around your waist, strengthen your core, and tone your calves, butt, quads and hamstrings. By regularly playing this sport, your muscle endurance and stamina will also increase.

After or even during a high-intensity badminton game, you will feel thirsty and increase your water intake, in comparison to just sitting inactively at home. Your need for water also increases as you break sweat and flush out toxins along with water.

Drinking more water will help to boost your metabolism, cleanse your body of waste and reduces hunger levels. It will also prevent water retention and the weight from it, caused by the body storing water when you aren’t drinking enough of it. Make sure you drink water and not other fizzy, sugary beverages to quench your thirst.

The fat burning zone is the heart rate at which you burn the most calories efficiently. A stronger heart also improves overall blood circulation in the body. This will also help in preventing clogging of arteries and reduction of bad cholesterol.
